MINIATURES
Small-scale works in pastel, oil, acrylic, and mixed media on wood, paper, and canvas.
Miniatures present narrative scenes drawn from a world of figures, animals, landscapes, and symbolic signs. Angels, riders, houses, boats, and creatures appear not as isolated motifs, but as participants in quiet, unfolding stories. The images often resemble fragments of tales or moments paused in time, where movement, encounter, and observation coexist within a carefully framed space.
Created alongside larger bodies of work, the miniatures operate as complete visual worlds in themselves. Their reduced scale allows the artist to concentrate on gesture, rhythm, and surface, while maintaining the same visual language found in larger compositions. Color, line, and ornament carry the narrative forward, giving each work a sense of continuity, play, and attentive detail.
Anton Balanchivadze has created more than 1,000 miniatures, with no exact repetition among them, aside from deliberate series, thematic cycles, and the recurring presence of subjects particularly close to the artist.
